About Mike

Michael Goodwin served as International president of the 105,000 member Office & Professional Employees International Union from March 1994 until his retirement in December 2015 after more than 50 years of service. He served in numerous capacities before that as organizer, business representative,

secretary-treasurer and business manager of Local 153. He also served as a national Vice President of OPEIU.

 

Goodwin was elected to the national AFL-CIO Executive Council in 1995 and served until 2016 representing the interest of more than 13 million members. He continues to serve as president of the American Labor Museum in Haledon, New Jersey, a position he has held since 1995.

 

Among his many honors, Goodwin is the 1995 recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, awarded to outstanding American citizens from all backgrounds who have distinguished themselves as members of a specific ethnic group.

 

Goodwin, a native of New York City, has six grown children and eleven grandchildren and lives in Rutherford, New Jersey.
